Munduk Cabins - A Luxurious Getaway in the North of Bali
This past week I was invited to stay at Munduk Cabins by Desa Hay with my partner Daniel in the North of Bali. Our three day stay was absolutely enchanting. It was fantastic to get away from the noisy, packed streets of Canggu and enjoy a holiday in the mountains. Munduk Cabins is unique in that it offers and combines the serenity and coziness of the cabin experience with five star luxury. The last time I stayed in a cabin I was in the Peruvian Amazon participating in a plant medicine retreat. I generally expect very little from the word ‘cabin’, but boy were we in for a treat. If I used one word to describe Munduk Cabins it’s - ‘Breathtaking’. If you choose to stay here, your cabin experience will never be the same again.
Munduk Cabins offers six cabin layouts to cater to its guests’ needs: 1 Bedroom Cabin with Private Jacuzzi, 1 Bedroom Cabin with Kitchen, 2 Bedroom Cabin with Kitchen, Studio Cabin with Kitchenette, Studio Cabin with Cabana and Studio Cabin. We were graciously put up in the 1 Bedroom Cabin with a beautiful livingroom, kitchen and private jacuzzi. These cabins have been impeccably and tastefully designed. Behind their sleek interior is the work of a very talented architect, who managed to successfully marry contemporary design with the ethereal beauty of the woods (in this case, the jungle) and achieve serene balance. I never thought that a dark wood and stone interior would appeal to me so much. Again, bravo! The cabins themselves have more of a ‘dream home’ in the woods feel than a hotel. On the second night of our stay I turned to Daniel and said “You know, I realize why I think this is one of my favourite stays. It doesn’t feel like a hotel. It feels like my dream house’. What creates this warm and inviting aura? The architecture, the interior design, the fully equipped kitchen (a rarity for a hotel). There is a small stack of carefully curated books on the coffee table, plenty of earth tone throws to cuddle under on the plush sofas and beautiful curated plant babies.
For the lovers of ‘Netflix and chill’ there is a massive flatscreen TV in the master bedroom. Our cabin featured ample open concept closet space (fantastic for my habitual overpacking), beautiful rugs, tasteful art and .. AND …. the most unbelievable view of the mountains and the ocean at sunset. Truly … the view alone is worth a million bucks. To pair this with a luxuriously outfitted cabin - well, you’ll never want to leave.
Munduk Cabins is currently in the final stages of building their in house restaurant, however the kitchen is already open and all the dishes can be ordered through room service. The cabin minibar offers a selection of soft drinks and beer, and bottles of European wine are already stocked on the kitchen shelves. But let me take you outside the cabin for a minute. The compound features expertly engineered walkways with rail lighting (which you will really appreciate once the sun sets). Again, even the paths have an organic, beautiful design which blends with the flora and fauna of the mountain. Once you walk down the main stairs a new view opens up - a cool infinity pool and hot jacuzzi, nestled next to them a gorgeous fire pit seating area where the staff create daily bonfires for the cabin guests. You are welcome to bring the marshmallows from your cabin! This place is perfect for a couples getaway, an artist or writers retreat or a restful family vacation (Munduk suggests that the retreat may be unsuitable for children under 12). I would agree that Munduk Cabins is a place for meditation, retrospection, romantic anniversaries, a parents’ holiday with their teenage or adult children. The cabin space is friendly, relaxed and sophisticated. The energy of the mountains here encourage silence, rest and introspection. I couldn’t get enough.
I will definitely be coming back and bringing my family here sometime soon.
After one last dip in the jacuzzi we were off to explore Bedugul … but that’s a story for another post.
